43、人生如瓶――高尔夫球、卵石、沙子和两杯咖啡（中文）
一位教授站在哲学课堂，前面桌上放了些东西。课堂开始时，教授一言不发，将高尔夫球都倒进瓶子里，教授问学生，瓶子是否已经满了？学生们说“是”。
然后，教授拿起一盒小卵石，倒进瓶子里，他轻轻摇几下，小卵石将高尔夫球间的空间都塞满了。教授举起瓶子再问学生，瓶子是否已经满了？学生都大声回应“是”。
教授再拿出一盒细沙，倒进瓶子里，当然细沙将所有剩余的空间都塞满。教授再举起瓶子问学生，他们都异口同声说“已满了”。
教授在桌下面拿出两杯咖啡，然后将它倒进瓶子里，咖啡基本将细沙间的空间都填满。此时，学生都在笑。
当教室慢慢安静下来时，教授说，我希望你们明白，这个瓶子是代表你的生命。高尔夫球代表一些重要的事，如上帝、你的家庭、你的子女、你的健康、你的朋友、一切你喜爱和钟情的。当生命里其他东西都失去，只剩下这些，你仍会觉得你的生命是完美的。
小卵石代表其他有分量的事，如你的工作、你的房子和汽车等。细沙代表生命里的所有琐事、一些鸡毛蒜皮的事。教授继续说，如果你将瓶子先注满沙，将再没有位置放小卵石和高尔夫球。
